JORGE FABIÁN CASTILLO
Castillo’s work is a time between image and word, between memory and figure, between lethargy and sensation.
Because words are conjugated between times and evoke images. In the present case, they conjugate themselves to provoke osmosis and silence. Although the photographic image as such is capable of expressing and visualizing itself without words, and the word of expressing images, the proposal is meant to be a poem where image and word create ambivalent memories in a lyrical world where the spectator is her own memory and her own experience.
It can be immediately perceived that between image and word there is no “literal” relation to be read, something which creates a tension and a silence for the observer. However, it is not a terminal silence. Rather, it is a transitory retreat from the media, a silence created by an internal poetry which transmits to the observer an evocative sense of discovery and a search for feeling or mood.
Castillo does not aim to tell stories with the images because each one holds its own construction. The images simply complement each other as a creative process that is used by the artist.
For the author the showroom is very important to transmit that poetry which conjugates image and word, which is why he seeks the work to be presented in the form of installations with images in different formats and texts written by hand on the walls of the showroom.
